This is another cookie that I make every Christmas. There are some other versions that are similar for example; peanut butter cookies with Hershey's kisses. I prefer these and recommend that you find the Brach's chocolate stars as opposed to the store brand.
Cream Cheese Star Cookies:

1 cup sugar
1 cup margarine
3 ounces cream cheese
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 cups flour
1 bag Brach's chocolate stars
Mix the margarine and sugar together, add the cream cheese. Mix well and add the remaining ingredients except for the chocolate stars.
Chill for 30 minutes or more.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Shape the dough into 1 inch balls and roll in granulated sugar.
Put on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake for 13 minutes.
Take out (the cookies will not be finished) and press stars into the balls.
Put back in oven and bake for about 3 minutes, until the edges are slightly browned.
